Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji Trust

Honor, Valour, Devotion & Eternal Sacrifice

Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji

Our Mission & Vision

Established in memory of the supreme martyr Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, this Trust is dedicated to promoting Sikh heritage, Gurmat wisdom, selfless community service (Sewa), and youth empowerment. We strive to serve humanity regardless of caste, creed, or status.

1. Early Life & Spiritual Beginnings

Baba Deep Singh Ji was born on January 13, 1682, in the village of Pahuwind (Amritsar district) to Mata Jito Ji and Bhai Bhagta Ji. From early childhood, he possessed an extraordinary devotion to Almighty God and a keen spirit of service.

In 1700, his parents took him to Sri Anandpur Sahib into the divine presence of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. There, he was blessed with Amrit (Khande-Bate ki Pahul). Under Guru Sahib's guidance, he mastered Gurbani, martial arts (Shastar Vidya), horse riding, and multiple languages including Arabic, Persian, and Gurmukhi.

2. Scholarly Contribution & Damdami Taksal

Beyond his unmatched warrior strength, Baba Deep Singh Ji was a formidable scholar. At Sri Talwandi Sabo (Damdama Sahib), Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji dictated the holy scripture of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to Bhai Mani Singh Ji and Baba Deep Singh Ji.

"Jau Tau Prem Khelan Ka Chau, Sir Dhar Tali Gali Meri Aau."
(If you wish to play the game of love, step onto my path with your head upon your palm.)

3. The Heroic Sacrifice of 1757

In 1757, news reached Damdama Sahib that Jahan Khan, the general of Ahmad Shah Abdali, had desecrated Sri Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple) in Amritsar. Hearing this, 75-year-old Baba Deep Singh Ji drew a line on the ground with his 18-kg Khanda (double-edged sword) and vowed to liberate the holy shrine or sacrifice his life.

A fierce battle ensued at Gohalwar. Even after sustaining a fatal blow to his neck, Baba Ji displayed unmatched willpower—supporting his head with one hand and wielding his heavy sword with the other. He fought heroically until reaching the sacred premises of Sri Harmandir Sahib, fulfilling his pledge and achieving supreme martyrdom.
